Spectacles and Red Tribe

As you may have seen, we have recently been collecting spectacles for a remote mobile Maasai clinic in the Olorte region of Kenya. We’ve been supporting the clinic for many years through Starfish Clinic Project International.

Mr Kamal Kamali visited the community again in October 2017, with a team including an ophthalmologist, who fitted the glasses for local residents. The recipients were delighted to be able to see more clearly and have asked us to pass on their grateful thanks to everyone who donated them.

The initiative was so successful that we will be collecting unneeded spectacles again in 2018, to be taken out next October. If you update your glasses, please don’t throw your old ones away, but instead think of donating them to this community through us.

Also in Olorte, a micro-entreprise organisation called Red Tribe makes beautiful traditional Maasai jewellery to provide an income to some of the local women.

We’re delighted to be able to announce that we will have some of their pieces available from the 1st December. If you would like to support the women who make them by perhaps buying Christmas presents, please ask at Reception.

Please also don’t forget that if you rebook with us at the end of an appointment, we will make a donation to Starfish on your behalf too.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your continued support of our contributions to the Starfish Clinic.
